Lord Moylan: To ask His Majesty's Government what estimates they have made of the level of Government support to the rail sector per passenger journey in (1) 2024–25, (2) 2025–26, (3) 2026–27, (4) 2027–28, and (5) 2028–29. (HL14612)

Minister of State, Department for Transport (Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill, CBE):

The Department for Transport's support for the 14 contracted operators and Network Rail was £8.47 per journey in 2024/25. It is currently estimated that this will steadily decrease to circa £7.40 per journey in 2028/29.
